Description

Selected sweet Virginias with a small pinch of Perique, classically enhanced with Caribbean rum, are matured over a long time in the press. The result is a dark brown, full and pleasant pipe tobacco in traditional style offering you a comfortably cool and smooth smoking experience. Unlike ordinary Flakes, it was not cut into slices, but packaged as a solid piece of real plug tobacco. Enjoy it in pipes with smaller bowls.

    Salty Dogs/Ernie Q

Both of these are at the top of their game--Salty Dogs and Ernie Q. Salty Dogs is a proper dense plug that yields a dense, sweet and savory smoke. Ernie Q did (as promised) bend over backwards to rectify an issue with my order. This combination of tobacco and service was unmatched.

    Tobacco

I really liked it ! I have only smoked one bowl as of now. I don’t think it’s fair to give a review after just one encounter. Im a big fan of Navy style tobacco. But from just one sitting it was very enjoyable!

    Salty Dogs, A Hidden Gem

Starting off, this tobacco is a PROPERLY DENSE plug. Similar in form to Petersons 3Ps. Its got very little odor upon opening the pouch. That is until slicing into it. As soon as you do you are greeted by a lovely and dark earthy odor. Followed by dark fruit and a hint of rum. I like to slice this into thin flakes and rub it out. I smoke it wet as well. I know most would dry this tobacco but i find it is so well behaved when sliced thin and rubbed out that its not really necessary. Also, you lose some of the subtle rum notes if you dry this blend out. The flavor profile consists of dark fruit, earthy perique, and a light alcohol note from the rum. Overall the flavor profile of this tobacco is very dark and mature. Whilst not the most complex flavor profile, what you get i personally find heavenly. As for the behavior of the tobacco, Its incredibly well behaved. It burns cool and causes little to no mechanical issues even when smoked wet. The nicotine i would say is on the upper side of medium and this blend really sings in medium to smaller bowl sizes. All in all Salty Dogs is hands down one of my favorite tobaccos and perhaps my favorite of all the "Navy" style tobaccos. TRY IT MY FRIENDS!

    Salty Dogs Indeed!!

This is by far the best plug tobacco I have ever smoked. It is a deep, dark rich and creamy smoke that will leave you longing for more. I choose to cut thin slices off the plug and then cube those slices for easy loading. I find the moisture content out of the pouch to be perfect so no additional drying time is needed. I recommend smoking Salty Dogs in a small pipe with a conical bowl. It burns very slow and long and to smoke it in anything larger would be overkill. I’ve order 2 more pouches for cellaring...though they may not make it that far.

Fantastic Va/Per! Well constructed euro plug. I slice off thin flakes and rub out. Burns well. Cellar worthy.
