    Brights "Ode to Dark Smokes"

Posted by NuffNuff on Jun 3rd 2026

Ahhhh…..Finally. Dark and delicious! Dark and invigorating. No, this isn't just Meh. If this is meh, you need to keep smoking different blends and then come back to this to really appreciate what's goin on here. The honey used here in tandem with the African brights is a match made in heaven. Like the description says lightly applied. The honey topping tastes unique to other "honey-topped" blends I've tried in the past and this by far, is my favorite. In a rusticated Comoy's Silver Cloud this stuff is supreme! And after years of smoking every blend under the sun and still having a lot of those blends in my rotation, my palette is geared towards more dark flavors.Daily. My palette isn't burnt out either, its just what I prefer. Burleys are what make up most of my rotation. A multitude of different virginia blends are enjoyed now and again and keep things balanced throughout the rotation but, rarely do I find myself smoking only bright citrusy blends throughout the week. And I feel like the industry is inundated with enough citrusy blends to last an eternity. I know bright and citrus don't neccessarily mean tart and sour all the time. Certain vapers like LBF, Regents Flake, come to mind. But to cut the BS, I don't think bright and dark Virginias get enough love and appreciation for what they really bring to the table. There's so many ways that bright Virginias make a better blend than without them. Which brings me to talk a sec about Bright Virginias because, as a lot of you should know, Bright Virginias are not that citrusy to begin with. Nothing like how citrusy the upper parts of the plant are or even like a lot of the other European variants of the leaf are and not even as citrusy as reds! Albeit as mellow as reds can be. No, Brights have a very special place. I could argue they occupy the same special place that White Burleys hold. They're so versatile, even by themselves with just the right top note applied moderately. They give that well rounded body and the right mouth feel to a blend. Its the kind of blending apparatus that spawns blends that are more smokable, and provide a more consistent smoking climax per bowl and therefore better rotation longevity, in my thinking at least. Without trying to ruffle any feathers No Not because they're unicorns now, but out of perfect example of what I'm trying to explain would be HH Burley Flake, Solani Aged Burley Flake, even Sutliffs breakfast burley flake The Hiking? Even HU Darkmoor are blends that I could smoke All week long(especially if they weren't extinct or hardly available). I think the robust flavors I'm talking about and enjoy derive from blends comprised of some amount of bright or dark Virginias and burley. It comes down to the chemical elements of the individual tobacco as well, i.e, the contrast and or balance of ph/acidity/roughness/bite to the smoothness and heaviness of bright to dark flavors that make a blend so good. And of course when you have a really good topping and its applied right, flavor clutch! Ernie and them did good to hunt down a good dark virginia(albeit a bright African) to pair up with this superb honey note. I'm liking this blend a lot as I try to stay positive while smoking a nice dark blend in even darker times. Thanks for thinking of old Nuff! I see you Watch City! Keep those dark smokes comin!
