Description

Before Captain Ahab threw his pipe over the side of the Pequod, he smoked this dark rich English flake of 60% latakia balanced out with Turkish, white burley, stoved cavendish, red Virginia and perique. A beautiful Crumble Flake tobacco for those whose white whale is latakia!

Complex blend with lots of Latakia. Along with Nor’easter and Church Warden, these three are among my favorites.

    Great English flake

I smoke Virginia's in warm weather and English and Balkan when it cools down outside. This is a very mellow but rich blend sort of like night cap but in beautiful full slabs. Very tasty!!!

I absolutely love this stuff! A delicious med/full blend English. Very smooth and flavorful. I stumbled across watch city from a YouTube video. Bought this stuff as it was recommended for English/Balkan lovers. It's quickly becoming my favorite blend. Bought a pound of this stuff and it's now a part of my regular rotation. If you like English & Balkan blends, definitely give Ahab's Comfort a try!

    Excellent!

Look, I don't know from musky old plum grass bready yeast flavors and whatnot. I do know that this is very very good. It starts off tasting like you're smoking black pepper...in a good way, then by the bottom third of the bowl, it mellows into a smooth sweetness. I love it. Try it.

This is a very tasty lat-bomb, the cake crumbles very well, it burns nicely. Perfect for a foggy night on the water, or any time you like.

I've only had this tobacco for a few bowls as of todays review but I may make this my new favorite tobacco and it's possible I would change my rating from a 4 to a 5 soon. Fantastic tobacco.

    Sublime....hands down.

Read a good amount of reviews going back and forth on the Penzance topic. So I had to try. Is it Penzance? No it is not. But to Ahabs credit this is one damn good smoke!!! Leaves an after taste that is sublime! If you don't like a heavy English baccy heaped with Orientals...keep on walking. And if you need to puff on a damn good blend look no further! It will take a while to decide on my part but this may well beat out GL Pease Gaslight. Swear while I was enjoying this I lost track of time and lot. In my best Oliver Twist " Please sir...I want some more." ?

    Wow!

Package note of pungent sour smoky and sweet. Tobacco is a Krumble Kake of a marbled dark brown, black and brown. Moisture content is great. Kake rubs out nicely. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is medium and nic is medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium to full and consistent, with complex notes of sweet smoke, savory, floral, cocoa, wood, incense, rich earth, leather, tangy lemon grass, musty fermented vegetation, sweet bread, citrus peel/zest, herbal spices, dry dark fruit, a spicy sugary sweet smoky background note, and a peppery retro. Latakia is leading with Oriental/Turkish, Perique and Virginia supporting. Maryland and Kentucky are cheering on the sidelines. Room note is tolerable, and aftertaste is great.

    Expectations Exceeded

I was in anticipation for this blend ever since it was brought up at an event at my local tobacconist. Just the name alone had me intrigued. I ordered a few ounces and once it arrived I was more than excited. The "tin note" (delivered in a zip bag) is phenomenal. Slightly vinegary, with almost a ketchup or barbecue sauce scent. Overall the aroma is savory to the nose. The cut is attractive as well, as they are thick belts of tobacco. When I loaded it up, the initial taste is faint, but once you get a quarter through the bowl is when the magic starts to happen. The aroma is pleasant from a pipe smokers sense, but I don't think it would be too pleasant for those unfamiliar with the art. The retrohale did leave me with a slight tingle in the nose and I did get a slight tongue bite, but slowing my cadence handled that very well. The blend is very well balanced and I consider this an all day smoke. I am in line to order more, because I can only imagine what this will evolve into with a bit of age behind it. 5/5 as this is a fantastic tobacco that everyone should experience.
