    Wessex Gold Slice

Wessex Gold Slice Blend notes: “Gold Slice pipe tobacco is a long cut Virginia Flake manufactured in the traditional British style. Pressed into cakes, lightly stoved, then cut after aging. Gold Slice has the naturally fresh and tangy taste characteristic of the best Virginia Flake. Long burning and cool smoking, with a pure tobacco aroma, this flake can be rubbed fine for indoor use, or smoked rough outdoors. No flavorings, nothing artificial. Just rich tasting, highest quality pipe tobacco. Distributed by Arango Cigar Co.” Wessex Gold Slice is a straight Virginia. Yummy. As one reviewer notes, “The stoving brings out a rich honey sweetness and the bright leaf brings on the lemony citrus and zesty qualities. Darker shades round out the high notes but don't tamp them. Flavor remains consistent, mellows and develops down the bowl.’ Absolutely spot on. An organically sweet Virginia that also gets high praise (as of March, 2024) there are 14 reviews on TR with an average around 3.7 out of 4. Honestly, this is a terrific blend but to be clear, I am a sucker for straight Virginias that emphasize the ‘Brights’ (lemony and citrusy flavors). Nothing at all harsh here. Very consistent throughout the bowl. Stunningly good. Mild plus in terms of taste strength. 4 out of 4 stars easily.

    Wessex Burley Slice

Second best, tinned, Burley flake on the current market. I detected a light topping (molasses) to accentuate the natural burley flavor. -Fresh tin-

    Wessex burley slice

I enjoy this more than the Solani burley slices. To me it seems to have less casing and more burley flavor.
