Really good stuff. I smoked it immediately and it tastes great and burns just fine. Honestly, this is the closest thing to a McClelland blend that I've come across. It invokes strong memories of McClelland Christmas blends, and this makes me super happy.

Such a complex tobacco! Flavorful, yet a mellow smoke from beginning to end. Perfect for late fall, with its autumnal, smokey, leafy quality on both the nose and pallet. My 1st batch of this makes it an instant, repeatable favorite!

I watched the virtual pipe club meeting where they had Ernie (blender) on the zoom. I finally gave in and ordered 2 lbs and 2 ounces of old dominion. Immediately smoked the 2 oz bag. Wow! Best results for me came from breaking the tobacco all the way down and rubbing out. The flavors that develop from beginning to end are everything I had hoped for. Nice and sweet at the beginning and eventually leveling out with in the sweet spot of the bowl. Cool smoke. No heat on the tongue. Hints of perique here and there. Which reminded me of a conversation I had with Ernie over the phone before placing the order where I asked him if there were anything else like old dominion that MORE perique and he replied with “It has just the right amount”. He was right. I like how the perique flavor comes in and out during the smoke. I can tell Old Dominion is a recent mix and I can already tell some aging will make this even better. I smoked this over the course of several days with my morning coffee, full bowl. Northern briars ELX with Mimmo briar. I don’t smoke aromatics anymore. The last three years I’ve been smoking va/per blends or straight Virginia. Such as Sam gawith FVF. Sam gawith Louisiana flake. McClelland 2015 va/per (very good). Gl Pease Fillmore. Gl Pease Montgomery. This Old Dominion is its own flavor. It’s close to McClelland but not a copy. I have to go, it’s 8 am and I have to grab my coffee and some Old Dominion.

In the first rank of Virginia-Periques, well worth trying if you haven't.

Honestly, I don’t want to say anything good about this tobacco! It might become more difficult to obtain than it already is on occasion. I have enjoyed VaPers for almost 34 years. This has some things different from others I have sampled - the outstanding flavor to the bottom of the bowl, it is a dry smoke, it has been very well trained NOT to bite, it burns slow for me, and is a wonderfully smooth smoke. It is EXTREMELY rare for these attributes to be in one tobacco in my experience. It might require a few relights but drying it a bit helps with that. It has a unique and wonderful flavor. I have used a food processor to chop it up a bit but that is certainly not needed. It is what I would call a thick, beautiful crumble cake. My search is over. I greatly wish I had discovered this years ago. Also, it ages with the best of them. MANY thanks to Ernie and all that work at Watch City!
