Flake #558 (The measured distance in miles between Watch City Cigar and Richmond, VA, plus a couple extra miles for good measure!) This is another of our "Crumble Flakes". (A mixture of cut leaf with some whole leaf added, pressed and sliced thick). Similiar to our "Old Dominion" this rich, dark flake substitutes a rich stoved Virginia for the Matured Virginia. A wonderfully complex flake with a naturally sweet aftertaste is the result. Just a bit less Perique than Old Dominion.
This is a gentle and relaxing smoke. The Virginia sweetness leads, supported by Burley earthiness and only a whisper of Perique. No harsh edges, no bite, just a soft and steady flavor profile. Great for those moments when you want something uncomplicated but still well-made. Not quite a “cellar essential,” but a blend I’m glad I tried.

Rich and satisfying - this is little heavier than Old Dominion. After wiping out my 2 oz sampling I promptly ordered more.
I always have 558 and old Dominion on hand and in the cellar. Thus one is not as tangy as old Dominion,it's more subtle and richer. One fine Virginia!!!
Heres your 2010 McCld - simliar Nice and dense with good tang..of deeps, brights, matures..both the Dom and 558 burn down to dry ash...delight. A good relaxer that won't be pushed. Another deep virginia pleaser. with good differentiation from Dominion. Good in a POT. Thx!

Please Watch City don't run with this idea, I'm only making a point and your loyal customers NEED these blends! With that out of the way, I truly believe if WCC tinned and bagged their blends and released them slower then a fart you ain't sure is just a fart, like Jermain's and Son does, their blends would be every bit as coveted as Penzance or any other blend on the market. Flake #558, for me this is a VaPer that almost needs it's own sub category of Dark, Creamy VaPers for it's not your typical brighter hay with a bit of raisin spice, where the two ingredients are almost separate in the smoking flavor, 558 comes off as a singular flavor of tart yet sweet with a delicious creaminess to the smoke with hints of stewed fruits coming from BOTH the Perique and the Virginia. I honestly couldn't recommend this blend more along with everything else WCC has to offer
558 is delicious in its subtle nuances. The stoved virginia lends it a wicked depth and the hearthy flavours of dried plum and brown sugar run from char to the bottom of the bowl. I've rarely been so smitten so fast. PLEASE never stop producing this blend!
