Description

Our first encounter with a pipe smoker in Mellville's Moby Dick is when we are introduced to the feirce yet noble tattooed harpooner Queequeg.  Queequeg's Tomahawk pipe, according to the narrator,  serves a dual purpose- To brain his foes and soothe the soul. I don't recommend you brain anyone with a tomahawk (or pipe. though I've considered it at times) , but I think this mixture will surely help soothe the soul.

Queequeg's Blend is a unique melange of rough and ribbon cut Burleys with a special "Essence of Latakia. Nutty, musty and earthy with a sublime note of Latakia which will make you wonder if there is any in the mixture at all! Queequeg's Blend was the base for our 2021 Christmas blend, and we will continue to offer it as part of our main menu.

    Great blend!

One of my fav burley blends. Just a good natural tobacco taste. Smokes cool and stays lit. The little pinch of Latakia really rounds out the blend and makes it unique. You almost wouldn't know it was there! Love Queequeg's!

    Simple Ambrosial Flavors

Posted by Jamie G. on Aug 25th 2023

Queequeg's Blend is an uncomplicated blend of ever so mildly sweet and sour Burleys with a steady hint of fragrant and slightly musty Latakia. The bag note is sweet and lightly smoky oats and nuts the casing is just on the tongue but unidentifiable in flavor. This is not an aromatic tobacco. The cut is a hefty chunk ribbon cut with some standard ribbons of golden Burley with a gentle sprinkling of black Latakia. The Latakia is always there but never sharp or blunting to the Burleys and stays in the back ground. The smoke is thick, a little dry and a touch rugged on the tongue. No sign of excess heat or bite. The room note is mild and pleasant with a sweet smokiness as well as in the aftertaste. The is a masterfully blended tobacco done with thought and a gentle hand. The tobacco is at a good smoking moisture, takes to the flame easily and burns consistently. If your a Burley blend fan that likes an occasional Latakia smoke that doesn't fry your palate with a bomb this is well worth a go. Very enjoyable and satisfying smoke.

    Queequeg’s Blend

Posted by Charles on Aug 21st 2023

Burley/Latakia blends are my favorite and most of my daily blends fall into this category. The tobacco here seems high quality, a nice ribbon cut without excessive moisture in the bag. My first few bowls were in briar pipes and were fair, but this blend really excelled in my cobs. The Latakia is there although a but light for my preference (YMMV), and the burley has nice nuttiness, and combined just a hint of sourness. Definitely worth a try and I will order more down the road. If this blend doesn’t sing for you in a briar, give it a chance in a cob.

A wonderful smoke that has some good complexity. Certainly one that begs for more than one bowl per sitting.

    Hidden Gem

This is one of those blends that goes under the radar. If you like Burley you should give this a try. The essence of Latakia works great and enhanced the blend. Perfect if you like Latakia in very measured doses.

    A Great Smoke

Great balanced natural tobacco flavors, medium strength, that last through the whole bowl. Plus, this is one of the best burning tobaccos I have encountered. I believe even those who aren't big burley fans would find this satisfying. I highly recommend trying it.
